Aric picked Drew up from daycare today to bring him to his Urology appointment. He had been sleeping since we dropped him off (5 hours)!! Maybe he is going through a growth spurt or fighting another horrid germ off.
Anywho- the pedi urologist was great. He explained everything very clearly. He even drew me a picture! In a nutshell, Drew has a fistula, it is a skinny tract from his bladder to his umbilical site (aka belly button). All babies have this in utero, but it normally closes by birth. He thinks Drews' is only partially open-by his belly. He doesn't think it goes all the way as he would be having recurrent UTI's. So, then he got this staph infection, which is expected, as bacteria can grow so easy, also something to do with the type of cells in the tract cause the secretions. So he doesn't really pee out of his belly, but that would be a cool party trick! Drew already is on antibiotics, so that is why it already has improved significantly. (I think I should be a pedi, as I am the one who suggested the meds-pat self on back now). When the antibiotics are done, if it starts draining again, then he needs surgery. If not, then it likely healed itself! He is done with his antibiotics on Saturday.
Good news? He can take a real big boy bath! The urologist feels that if he gets bacteria in there again-then more of a reason to fix it surgically, and he can't avoid water his whole life-that would make him weird.
Gotta run- we are going to go give him a bath!
